I think I’m 1 Week Pregnant and Don’t Want the Baby?

When you think you might be pregnant, especially if you weren’t planning for it, It can be overwhelming. If you are feeling uncertain about the future, it’s natural to feel a flood of emotions—fear, confusion, worry, and maybe even a little shock. At Pregnancy Resources of Abilene, we’re here to offer support, no matter what emotions or decisions you’re facing.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Our goal is to give you the information, care, and guidance you need to make the best decision for yourself.

Understanding Early Pregnancy: What Does It Mean to Be 1 Week Pregnant?

First, it’s important to understand what 1“1 week pregnant” really means. In medical terms, pregnancy is usually calculated from the first day of your last period, not from the actual date of conception. So, when you’re considered 1 week pregnant, you haven’t actually conceived yet. Conception usually occurs around the two-week mark. This is why the very early stages can be filled with questions, uncertainty, and a lot of "what-ifs."

If you’re concerned about an unplanned pregnancy, this is an ideal time to seek support and

learn about your options.

What Are My Options If I Don’t Want the Baby?

The good news is that you don't have to make a decision quite yet, because you don't actually know if you are pregnant. You can however use this time to gather as much information as possible so that you are well-informed if you do end up needing to make a decision.

Every situation is different, and we know the decision is deeply personal. Here are some paths you can consider, with no pressure from us—just compassionate support:

  1. Parenting: Some women initially feel unsure about parenting due to a lack of support. but later decide to continue the pregnancy after seeing the support they can get in their community. If that’s something you’re considering, we can connect you with resources that will help you prepare emotionally, financially, and practically for parenthood.

  2. Adoption: For some women, adoption may be the most loving choice. If this is the case we can help you explore different types of adoption plans and agencies that allow you to have as much or as little involvement as you wish, including open, semi-open, or closed adoptions. (In the state of Texas, open adoptions are not legally enforced.)

  3. Abortion: If you're considering abortion, it's essential to have accurate information. We can discuss what the procedure entails, what to expect, and any emotional or physical considerations. Because we have seen so many women & men struggle on the other side of abortion we choose to not refer or provide for them at our center.

Why It’s Important to Take Time Before Deciding

It’s understandable to want a quick solution when faced with an unexpected pregnancy. However, taking a little time to weigh your options, understand your emotions, and gather accurate information is key to making a truly informed decision.

If you think you are one week pregnant, it’s too early to take any medical steps to terminate a pregnancy because you don't know you are pregnant yet. This time can be used to talk with someone about your feelings, ask questions, and get a clearer picture of your next steps. Taking the time now can lead to a decision that you feel at peace with, even in the long run.
